Ajax, the legendary Dutch club from Amsterdam, will play D.C. United in a friendly May 22 at RFK Stadium. The Sunday match will kick off at 5 p.m.
Ajax last appeared at RFK in 1990, playing the U.S. national team in a 1-1 draw just before the Americans headed to Italy for the World Cup. The meeting with United comes a week after the Dutch Eredivisie season concludes.
Founded in 1900, Ajax has won 29 league titles and four top-tier European titles. This season, the club is third in the Dutch race with a 16-4-7 record, trailing bitter rival PSV Eindhoven and Twente.
United plans to play two additional friendlies against foreign opponents this summer. Last year, D.C. defeated AC Milan, El Salvador’s national team and English club Portsmouth.
