D.C. United’s Dwayne De Rosario is repeat winner of MLS player of the week honor

D.C. United’s Dwayne De Rosario was named MLS player of the week again, the first back-to-back recipient in three years.

De Rosario scored three times in United’s 3-3 draw with Toronto FC on Saturday night at RFK Stadium. A week earlier, he was honored after scoring twice against the San Jose Earthquakes.

Since United acquired him from the New York Red Bulls in late June, De Rosario has six goals and an assist in six league matches. He is the first player to win the weekly award twice this season and the first to win it in consecutive weeks since Kenny Cooper (then with FC Dallas) and Landon Donovan of the Los Angeles Galaxy in 2008.

“Dwayne is unbelievable,” United Coach Ben Olsen said after Saturday’s match. “He’s an absolute stud and a winner. We’re very happy he’s here.”

United (6-6-9) will host the Vancouver Whitecaps (3-11-9) on Saturday night.
