Dwayne De Rosario of D.C. United named MLS player of the week for third time

D.C. United’s Dwayne De Rosario needed just 31 minutes to record a hat trick and an assist Saturday against Real Salt Lake at RFK Stadium, all but securing the MLS player of the week honors before the votes were tallied. On Monday, he was officially saluted by the league — the third time he has garnered the award in the past eight weeks.

Since being acquired from the New York Red Bulls, De Rosario has 10 goals and six assists in 13 league appearances. His 13 goals overall are first in MLS, one ahead of Landon Donovan and Thierry Henry.

United players have won five of the past weekly awards: De Rosario three times and Charlie Davies and Chris Pontius once apiece. Voting is done by the North American Soccer Reporters.

United (9-8-11) will play the next three matches away, with visits to Philadelphia on Thursday and Columbus on Sunday.

Steven Goff is The Post’s soccer writer. His beats include D.C. United, MLS and the international game, as well as local college basketball.
