Maryland Terrapins women’s soccer team concedes first goal of season but extends unbeaten streak to 7

Sade Ayinde scored two first-half goals Wednesday and the third-ranked University of Maryland women’s soccer team defeated American, 5-1, extending its unbeaten streak to seven. The match was stopped with four minutes left because of a lightning warning and didn’t resume.

Ayinde scored from 12 yards in the 24th minute and on a penalty kick in the 37th for the Terrapins (6-0-1), who have outscored their opponents 24-1. Olivia Wagner’s penalty and an own goal added to the lead before AU’s Jasmine Mohandesi ended senior goalkeeper Yewande Balogun’s shutout streak at 634 minutes. Shade Pratt capped the scoring for Maryland.

The Eagles (2-5-0) have lost four straight. The match was played at Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds because of poor field conditions in College Park. Maryland will complete its nonconference schedule Sunday at James Madison.
