Matchnight #26: D.C. United at Sounders

Greetings from Seattle. It’s a cool, overcast setting for D.C. United’s visit to the Emerald City and another big away match in its push for an MLS playoff berth.

United has been on the West Coast for nine days, linking last weekend’s trip to Carson, Calif., with this game against the playoff-bound Sounders. Despite the artificial turf and intimidating crowd, United has enjoyed its stops in Seattle: a 3-3 draw in 2009 and 3-2 victory last year.

United is 5-4-4 on the road; Seattle is 7-3-4 at home. United has been off for a week; the Sounders played at Herediano in Costa Rica on Wednesday. United’s Chris Pontius is sidelined with a broken leg; Seattle’s rugged central defender, Jhon Kennedy Hurtado is serving a red card suspension.

Kickoff: 9 p.m. ET.

TV: Comcast SportsNet/DC, Direct Kick.

DCU lineup: Willis; Kitchen, McDonald, White, Woolard; Najar, Simms, De Rosario, da Luz; Ngwenya, Davies.

Subs: Hamid (hamstring), Burch, King, Morsink, Quaranta (slight hamstring), Wolff, Brettschneider.

Not in uniform: Pontius (leg), Jakovic (hamstring).
