MLS Cup: Galaxy’s Terrapins, 2012 format, weather outlook, poll, TV info

*Omar Gonzalez and A.J. DeLaGarza have been teammates for six seasons: three at the University of Maryland and three with the Los Angeles Galaxy. They’ve won an NCAA title; today they hope to celebrate an MLS Cup victory.

*MLS is likely to announce format plans for the 2012 season today. Among the strong possibilities: an unbalanced schedule to enhance rivalries and address travel issues; five automatic playoff berths for each conference, which would prevent, say, New York ending up in the Western bracket; two-leg conference finals instead of a single match; and MLS Cup at the venue of the team with the better regular season record.

*Home Depot Center weather: cool and rainy.

*TV reminder: ESPN and Galavision, 9 p.m. ET. Kickoff at 9:25.
