The Washington Post

Note to Soccer Insider readers

With winter’s arrival, I am slipping into my annual semi-hibernation. If urgent news breaks, I will report it here, but for the most part, my approach will be reactive rather than proactive. I am more inclined to post updates on my Twitter page and the Soccer Insider’s Facebook page.

Things to watch for: U.S. national team roster for January training camp and friendlies, perhaps more details on the MLS schedule, Charlie Davies’ 2012 destination, college players leaving school early to sign with MLS or overseas, D.C. United roster reconstruction, and WPS’s plans after receiving a USSF sanctioning lifeline this week.

I’ll return to full-time duty after Jan. 1 and split my time between soccer and local college basketball. In the meantime, you can find me by a roaring fire finishing Malcolm Gladwell’s “Outliers” and cracking open Paul Hendrickson’s “Hemingway’s Boat” and Russell Banks’ “Lost Memory of Skin.”

I leave you with the month-appropriate Decemberists:

Steven Goff is The Post’s soccer writer. His beats include D.C. United, MLS and the international game, as well as local college basketball.
