Maryland junior forward Alyssa Thomas was named to the preseason watch list for the Wade Trophy presented annually to the country’s top women’s college basketball player.

Thomas is the reigning ACC player of the year after leading the Terrapins to their record 10th conference tournament title last season and helping Maryland advance to the NCAA tournament regional final, where it lost to eventual national runner-up Notre Dame.

Thomas became the first sophomore in program history to be named first-team all-American.

She led the ACC in scoring with 17.2 points per game and finished among the conference leaders in rebounding (8.0 per game), assists (3.2), free throw percentage (80.1) and defensive rebounding (5.5).

The Terrapins finished 31-5 last season, have four of five starters back and are in line to be ranked in the top five in the preseason polls.
