The list of injured Maryland football players is growing longer by the day. Here’s the full injury report for Saturday’s opener against William & Mary at Byrd Stadium, per Coach Randy Edsall’s discussion with reporters on Thursday.
All of the listed players will not play. Edsall ruled them out before Thursday’s practice.
RB Brandon Ross (hamstring): This is the big one. The redshirt freshman is one of the newest additions to the injury list. “He tried to go this week, just didn’t feel it,” Edsall said. Freshman Albert Reid (Friendship Collegiate Academy) will start at running back in his place, though Edsall said a three-man platoon is likely with Justus Pickett and Wes Brown. Edsall said Reid “showed the most” during the preseason to warrant the starting nod.
K Nick Ferrara (hip): Ferrara was scheduled to take 10 kicks during Tuesday’s practice. Edsall said that, on the last kick, Ferrara felt soreness and will be shut down for Saturday and evaluated thereafter. Aussie freshman Brad Craddock will handle place kicking and kickoff duties in his stead. The battle between Craddock and redshirt freshman Nathan Renfro for starting punter is ongoing.
LB Abner Logan (thigh): Another new injury. The freshman will have X-rays on Thursday.
DL Keith Bowers (knee): In working his way back from a knee sprain, Bowers is expected to start work next week, according to Edsall. He was ruled doubtful earlier this week, but Edsall declared him out for Saturday’s game.
S Matt Robinson (shoulder): Robinson will start conditioning soon. Edsall hopes to have him back by the Connecticut game on Sept. 15.
DB A.J. Hendy (ankle): Sidelined with a high-ankle sprain.
DL Isaiah Ross (hamstring):Bad week for players named Ross and their hamstrings.
OL Josh Cary (knee): Two weeks left for Cary before his return, according to what Edsall said last week.
LB Kenny Tate (knee): According to Edsall, Tate is undecided for next week’s game against Temple.
DB Isaac Goins (illness) Goins is still out with mononucleosis, and likely will be until the U-Conn. game.
QB Dustin Dailey (ankle): The freshman is out. No change in the depth chart behind starter Perry Hills. Caleb Rowe and Devin Burns will still back up Hills.
QB C.J. Brown (knee): Out for the year.
DL Andre Monroe (knee): Also out for the year
