Maryland men’s lacrosse coach John Tillman is remaining at the school, two sources familiar with the situation said on Thursday. The news comes after a report in the Baltimore Sun said Navy was interested in talking to Tillman about its head coaching vacancy, but had not sought the permission of Maryland to do so.
Attempts to reach Tillman on his cellphone were not immediately successful.
Tillman spent 12 years as an assistant at Navy before he left for Harvard after the 2007 season.
Navy has been seeking a head coach since Richie Meade resigned on May 9.
“We are not commenting on any speculation, we are not commenting on any potential or non-potential candidates,” Navy assistant athletic director Scott Strasemeier said on Thursday. “It’s an ongoing search. The first thing we will say is when we have an announcement about the new hire.”
Tillman led the Terrapins to a 13-5 record, the ACC tournament title and a berth in the NCAA tournament championship game this past season.
