Maryland was picked to finish ninth in the ACC preseason poll, it was announced Wednesday evening. It’s the lowest the Terrapins have ever been picked since the ACC started doing preseason polls in 1970 (though the league didn’t go to 12 teams until 2005-06).

With 57 of a possible 59 first-place votes, North Carolina was picked to win the conference, with Duke chosen second.

North Carolina forward Harrison Barnes was named the ACC preseason player of the year, also garnering 57 of 59 votes. The other two went to North Carolina forward John Henson.

Duke guard Austin Rivers was named ACC preseason rookie of the year; he also earned all but two votes. Maryland guard Nick Faust and North Carolina forward James Michael McAdoo received the others.
