Maryland wide receiver Adrian Coxson has been granted his release from his scholarship and will transfer, and defensive lineman Cody Blue has decided to leave the football program.
Eight football players have now left the team since the season ended Nov. 26. In total at least 20 players have left the program since Coach Randy Edsall was hired in January.
Coxson sent The Post a statement through email that read:
“After long and careful deliberation, and talking to my family and people that are close to me, I’ve decided that it’s in my best interest to leave the University of Maryland and continue both my education and football career at another school. It’s a disappointing decision for me to leave my hometown team, as I had some very large goals when I enrolled at Maryland last year, but just feel like it’s in my best interest at this point to move on and pursue both my education and my playing career elsewhere. I wish Coach Edsall and Maryland’s football program nothing but the best going forward, and I will always love Terp Nation.”
A person close to Blue confirmed that the lineman also will leave the program.
Athletic Director Kevin Anderson said in a statement:
“We have had discussions with Cody regarding a number of university and athletics department issues, which we will not discuss publicly. Should he decide to transfer, we certainly wish him well in his future athletic and academic ventures.”
