The NCAA announced on Tuesday that eight Miami football players must miss games and repay benefits received from a booster to regain their eligibility. All eight will miss Monday’s season opener against Maryland.

The losses will be especially painful on the defensive side of the ball. Here’s a look at what the Hurricanes will be missing (2010 stats).

LB Sean Spence: 13 starts, 111 tackles, 17 tackles for a loss, 2.5 sacks.

DL Olivier Vernon: 11 starts, 39 tackles, 10.5 tackles for a loss, 6 sacks.

DL Marcus Forston: 12 starts, 37 tackles, 12 tackles for a loss, 3 sacks, 1 interception.

DB Ray-Ray Armstrong: 3 starts, 79 tackles, 4.5 tackles for a loss, 3 interceptions.

DL Adewale Ojomo: 4 starts, 38 tackles, 7.5 tackles for a loss, 5 sacks.

GRAND TOTAL: 43 starts, 304 tackles, 51.5 tackles for a loss, 16.5 sacks, 4 interceptions.

Throw in quarterback Jacory Harris (nine starts in 2010) and wide receiver Travis Benjamin (43 catches, 23 punt returns), and that’s a whole lotta experience sitting out.
