Terps college football preview magazine roundup: Sporting News

The calendar says it’s June and it’s approximately 158 degrees outside, but that doesn’t mean we can’t start thinking about college football, especially with all the preview magazines starting to grace newsstands this week. So over the next couple of days, we’ll take a look at what the mags are saying about the Terrapins. Maryland and Miami kick off in a mere 96 days.

TODAY: Sporting News.

PRICE: $7.99.

COVER STAR: Hey, it’s Maryland quarterback Danny O’Brien!

MARYLAND PREDICTED FINISH: Second in ACC Atlantic behind Florida State.

MARYLAND PREDICTED BOWL: Military Bowl vs. Navy (that should go over well).

MARYLAND OPPONENTS IN TSN TOP 25: West Virginia (No. 23), Florida State (No. 7), Notre Dame (No. 18).

MARYLAND ALL-ACC PLAYERS: QB Danny O’Brien, DL Joe Vellano, LB Kenny Tate (listed as defensive back, though the magazine correctly puts him at linebacker in the Maryland team preview). Tate was listed as a first-team all-American, as well (again, at defensive back).

MISCELLANEOUS: O’Brien listed as ACC’s “Best Passing QB.” Tate listed as “Hardest Hitter.”

GIST OF THE MARYLAND PREVIEW: New Maryland coach Randy Edsall inherits a lot of talent after a stormy offseason.
