Maryland will face Alabama, last season’s NIT runner-up, in the first round of the 2011 Puerto Rico Tip-Off on Nov. 17, ESPN officials announced Wednesday.
Each team in the eight-team tournament will play three games over four days. Maryland’s half of the draw also includes Colorado and Wichita State, where Maryland Coach Mark Turgeon was head coach from 2000-2007.
Maryland won the Puerto Rico Shootout in 1998, the Terps’ only previous appearance in the tournament.
