Terrapins’ training camp scrimmage set for Aug. 18

The Maryland football team will hold an intrasquad scrimmage on Aug. 18 at Byrd Stadium as part of fan appreciation day, the athletic department announced.

The scrimmage will begin at 3 p.m., and afterward players will sign autographs. Gates are scheduled to open an hour before the start of the scrimmage.

Fan appreciation day will provide the general public with its first opportunity to see firsthand the new synthetic field at Byrd Stadium. The installation of the FieldTurf surface was completed in June as part of a $3 million project.

The Terrapins opened training camp on Aug. 6 and will play their first game on Sept. 1 against Willliams & Mary at Byrd Stadium.

Maryland also will celebrate Youth Football Day at the season opener. Youth football teams, coaches and families may purchase tickets for $10 per person.Family four packs of tickets for the opener also are available at $40. Those packages include four tickets and four car flags.
