In a classic case of bad timing, a rainy weekend and a premature peak bloom time culminated in an off-kilter launch for the National Cherry Blossom Festival.
The blooms were falling off the trees and “snowing” on D.C. streets Monday. If you were planning a trip to the Tidal Basin, best to do it now: The blossoms, which peaked last Tuesday, now face the possibility of a late-March freeze.
