Cupcake bakers celebrate Cherry Blossom Festival

Since no celebration is complete without a cupcake these days, Sprinkles Cupcakes is joining in the cherry blossom festivities with a special cherry-infused treat.

The cupcake is filled with pureed cherries in both the batter and the frosting, and features a minimalist light pink and fushia color scheme that gives new meaning to the term “food porn.”

The cherry blossom cupcake will be available from Saturday to April 10 at Sprinkles’ new Georgetown location.

Not to be outdone, neighboring rival Georgetown Cupcake will offer a cherry blossom cupcake (a classic vanilla cupcake baked with fresh cherries and topped with a fondant cherry blossom) as one of their “seasonal flavors” in April.

The National Cherry Blossom Festival kicks off with Family Day on Saturday. Use our handy traveler’s guide to navigate the festival and share your (possibly snow-covered?) blossom photos.
