Image of the day: Washington, all lit up

Lightning over Washington, D.C., on April 3. (Maxwell Kruger)

I was sitting at my desk last night doing some work when I was interrupted by a few repeated flashes of light. I looked out my window and there was quite an electrical storm happening in the distance. I decided to point a camera out the window to see what I would get. After about an hour of photography, this crazy photo [above] showed up on the back of my camera.

See Kruger’s full blog post for other spectacular lightning images from Sunday night. His images were also submitted to and posted over at Also, if you enjoy D.C. lightning photography, you should view some of CWG photographer Kevin Ambrose’s work .
