Md. students wear pink in honor of classmate who died Wednesday

Students at Surrattsville High School are planning to wear the color pink Thursday in honor of a classmate who collapsed and died while jogging on the school track.

Pink was 17-year-old Tekau Rasayon’s favorite color, according to friends, who shared condolences and spread the word about Thursday’s rose-hued tribute on Twitter.

According to Prince George’s school officials, Rasayon collapsed Wednesday during a physical education class.

The school nurse and an ambulance were called to the scene, and Rasayon was taken to Southern Maryland Hospital. She was later pronounced dead.

No details on the cause of Rasayon’s collapse or death have been released. Counselors will be at the school this week to offer support, school officials said.
