Crossroads launches $25 million buy off jobs report

An outside group targeting President Obama is already out with a new ad highlighting June’s weak jobs report.

Crossroads GPS, a 501(c)(4) organization advised by former Republican strategist Karl Rove, is going on the air with a $25 million campaign focused on the national debt and the jobs market. The first ad, “Excuses,” will focus on Friday’s disappointing jobs numbers.

“America’s jobless rate is still too high,” the narrator says. “Barack Obama’s got lots of excuses for the bad economy ... but Obama never blames Washington’s wild spending and skyrocketing debt.”

Just 80,000 jobs were added to the economy last month, and the unemployment rate stayed stagnant at 8.2 percent.

“Excuses” is airing in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Nevada, Ohio and Virginia. The campaign begins July 10 and continues through early August.

Nonprofit issue advocacy groups like Crossroads GPS do not have to disclose their donors. President Obama’s campaign has filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission arguing that the group is a political committee and should be subject to more transparency. The group has a sister super PAC, American Crossroads, that does report to the FEC. Together the two groups are expected to spend $300 million in this election.

* Michigan - $2.1 million

* North Carolina - $2.7 million

* New Hampshire - $1.9 million

* Nevada - $1.3 million

* Ohio - $3.3 million

* Virginia - $3.4 million
