The Washington Post/Bloomberg Republican presidential debate on Tuesday, Oct. 11 will be the first debate of the 2012 campaign to focus exclusively on the issue voters say they care about most: the economy.

Whoever emerges from the Republican field to challenge President Obama in 2012 will almost certainly work to make the election a referendum on President Obama’s handling of the economy.
