As today’s $10 million donation from casino mogul Sheldon Adelson to a GOP super PAC reveals, the campaign money wars are heating up in earnest.
From now on until the election, we’ll be tracking campaign ad spending by President Obama, former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney and their affiliated super PACs and other outside groups in both parties.
The numbers we used to create the spending chart below come from a Republican media buyer and are subject to change, but we hope to give readers a picture of how much is being spent every week, who is spending the most and where that money is going.
Without further ado, here’s the spending for June 12 to June 18:
As you can see, Obama himself is the biggest spender, putting over a whopping $7.2 million dollars on the air this week alone. Obama’s spending the most money in Florida, North Carolina and Ohio.
Romney, on th other hand, is spending just $2.5 million this week. The Republican super PAC Crossroads GPS has put down another $2.4 million, but that includes spending on Senate campaigns. Priorities USA Action, the Obama-allied super PAC, is spending about $1.2 million. Planned Parenthood Action Fund*, in the midst of one of its biggest advertising offensives ever, has also spent about half a million in Florida, Iowa and Virginia.
Restore Our F uture, Romney’s super PAC, didn’t spend any money at all this week, but that will likely change now that Adelson has pumped more money into the group.

* Planned Parenthood Action Fund, the nonpartisan advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, is making these ad buys. This sentence has been corrected.
