The Washington Post

A good feeling about Obama

As we begin the gun lap of this presidential ultra marathon, the race feels as if President Obama has withstood several rushes from Mitt Romney and that he maintains a slight lead. (I am sure some partisan Republicans will say that this is further evidence that the president was born in Kenya, as that country consistently produces some of the world’s best distance runners.)

I say that the race “feels” like it leans to Obama because a preponderance of polls indicate it, and because the president has had a good week with statesmanship regarding Hurricane Sandy and a better -than-expected jobs report.

Also I believe Romney’s move to the middle may have reached diminishing returns. This Post editorial is a powerful takedown of Romney’s gamesmanship. Moreover, the Romney opportunistic conversion on the Federal Emergency Management Agency as the flood waters mounted and the brazen lie of his Ohio auto ad may have pushed this whole cynical strategy too far.
