The Insiders: Weekend Reading

Here is The Insiders' recommended weekend reading:

1.  A very good analysis from Gallup explains the hole President Obama has dug for himself and the challenge he will face in obtaining the 270 electoral votes needed to win in November. It is foolish to take today’s headlines or polling data and extrapolate to the general election, but this analysis gives just the facts and is a good template to use as the election year proceeds.

2.In the oh-by-the way department, there may be a war soon with Iran in which America could have some degree of involvement. As I have said , this could be politically significant. For an insightful analysis of how a conflict with Iran might take shape, and what this reality could mean for the United States, read this piece by Jeffrey White, a defense fellow at the Washington Institute of Near East Policy: “What Would War with Iran Look Like?”

Ed Rogers is a contributor to the PostPartisan blog, a political consultant and a veteran of the White House and several national campaigns. He is the chairman of the lobbying and communications firm BGR Group, which he founded with former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour in 1991.
