Shashwat Sharma, 16, who lived in Ashburn and attended Broad Run High School, died Tuesday. On Saturday, he suffered severe head injuries while skateboarding without a helmet, and he was on life support until his passing.

His skill was his intellect, not his skateboarding, his family told Delia Goncalves of WUSA 9. He led the Broad Run debate team to the state championship two weeks ago, and on Wednesday his coach received a National Forensic Award meant for Sharma, Goncalves reported.

Here is Goncalves’s full report. Wear a helmet, kids.
