Tyler Perry is accustomed to taking heat from what Al Sharpton calls the ‘proper negro’ set for making low-brow films that aren’t artsy enough and contain too much buffoonery.

But he has a loyal following of folks who rightfully point out that he consistently keeps more black actors and actresses working than most of those doing the complaining. Now, Perry has come under fire from his hardcore fans for casting reality tv star Kim Kardashian in his upcoming movie “The Marriage Counselor.”

TV personality Kim Kardashian, right, and her fiance, NBA basketball player Kris Humphries, arrive at the Kardashian Kollection launch party in Los Angeles. Kardashian is expected to file for divorce in Los Angeles on Monday, Oct. 31, 2011, according to a report confirmed by the producers of her reality show. Fans have bombarded Perry’s website with negative comments and threats to boycott. Perry responded with a long letter to his fans. In it, he called Kardashian a “role model.”

Here’s a sampling of the negative:

YM “Mr Perry, I read your email about why you are putting Kim K in your movie. I do not understand why young girls follow her . Why what has she done to be idolized by young girls ? And better yet why would parents not encourage there children to have a better role model ? She is famous for what reason other than a sex tape ? Sorry but she disgusts me and we will not be seeing your new movie. Take care through this tough time in your life i am praying for you.”

big fan:You have no children you are raising so you have no idea what mothers or fathers face everyday and having nieces and nephews or watching others raise their kids are not the same, believe me i know. With that said in the end it is between you and God what your motives are but i will say this. I would be the first to pat you on the back if Kim K was trying to turn her life around and turned to you but first i would have took her into counsel and then showed the new God fearing Kim K to the world. If you really had the kids and parents in mind and not your wallet you would have taken a better look at this decision.

And the positive:

kakay: Thanks for staying the course of YOUR movies direction. This is America and Kim K. is free to get out of a marriage that is not working, no matter how many days it lasted. It is NOT any of our business and she does NOT have to explain anything.

melinda: I love what you’re doing Mr Perry. Your movies have meaning and makes us laugh and learn at the same time. I have no problem with Kim being in the movie either. Please don’t ever feel like you have to justify any choice you make. We have all made mistakes in our lives.

And here’s what actress Holly Robinson-Peete had to say on Access Hollywood: “It’s actually pretty smart and the timing is great.”

I don’t personally have a dog in this fight as I have never been a fan of Perry’s movies. My mom (hey, mama!, waving at ya) is a huge fan and so are millions of others. I am sure they will be right there in their seats once the movie opens and Perry ought to be carrying truckloads of money to the bank by combining his following with Kardashian’s.
