The Center for a New American Security (CNAS) has announced that Bob Butler, former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Cyber Policy, has joined the think tank as a nonresident senior fellow.

“Bob has long been at the forefront of cyber security policy, a rapidly evolving area with critical implications for America’s national security,” said Kristin Lord, CNAS Executive Vice President and Director of Studies, in a released statement.

Butler served as the first deputy assistant secretary of defense for cyber and space policy from 2009 to 2010 and as deputy assistant secretary of defense for cyber policy from 2010 to 2011. He currently serves as Vice President of Government Strategies for IO, a privately held data center provider. He is a retired U.S. Air Force Colonel and a former member of the Defense Department’s senior executive service.
