Don Berwick, the Medicare and Medicaid top official who resigned at the end of last year, will join the progressive Center for American Progress as a senior fellow.

Washington Post colleague Sarah Kliff has the scoop and an exclusive Q&A with Berwick on the Affordable Care Act, which, despite the knocking it’s taking, he sees getting stronger.

I firmly believe that the best way to make care affordable is improve it. The Affordable Care Act is a foundation, and there’s a lot of stuff going on around it. It’s game time now. In the next couple of years we’re going to need to see health-care costs coming under firm control. If that happens, I’ll be optimistic.
