Gannett Broadcasting, parent of Washington’s CBS affiliate, WUSA made it official today: Mark Burdett is the station’s new president and general manager.
Burdett succeeds Allan Horlick, who announced his retirement in November.
It’s a return to Washington’s TV-station arena for Burdett – he was vp and station manager at the market’s ABC affiliates from 1996-98, and held various posts in sales at Washington’s WDCA. Most recently, he was vp of corporate sales and development for the Baltimore Ravens, after a stint as senior director of partnerships and development for the team.
“Under his marketing and sales leadership, the Baltimore Ravens are one of the top producing NFL teams, despite Baltimore being a medium size market,” noted Gannett Broadcasting president Dave Lougee in Wednesday’s announcement.
WUSA has been in the news lately, when response to one of its reporter’s February-sweep reports took a threatening turn.
