TV Land plans tribute to Sherman Hemsley

In honor of Sherman Hemsley, who died Tuesday at age 74, TV Land will pay tribute to the actor with a marathon of “The Jeffersons” this weekend.

View Photo Gallery: Hemsley, best known for playing George Jefferson on the TV sitcoms “The Jeffersons” and “All in the Family” and as Deacon Earnest Frye on “Amen,” has died.

Helmsley played the famous George Jefferson character on the series, which ran from 1975 to 1985. He also played a deacon/lawyer on the 1980s sitcom “Amen,” and had roles on “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” and “Love at First Bite.”

TV Land will air Hemsley’s most memorable episodes from “The Jeffersons” this Saturday, July 28, from noon to 4 p.m.
