Gov. Bob McDonnell isn’t the only Virginia official heading to the Final Four.
House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R), who represents the Richmond area, will jet off to Houston with his sons to see Virginia Commonwealth University play Butler in the college basketball tournament Saturday night.
“We are all about Rams Nation,’’ Cantor told reporters. “It is an extraordinary experience for a town like Richmond, which isn’t necessarily one you think of as being college hoops central, but we are very, very excited about VCU, and obviously the town is abuzz. We are hoping for great things.”
Cantor was at the Richmond International Airport on Sunday just before VCU’s basketball team flew home from San Antonio after its stunning win over Kansas. He waited around to greet Coach Shaka Smart and his players, and also spoke briefly to VCU President Michael Rao.
Richmond Mayor Dwight Jones and Rao also will be in Houston for the game.
