Sen. Phillip Puckett, who faces a tough reelection battle in Southwest, said Wednesday that he would not be supporting President Obama for reelection in 2012.

No other Democratic legislator in Virginia has come out against Obama, whose approval ratings have sagged in recent months.

“It’s very clear to me that the administration does not support the coal industry in a way that's beneficial to our area,’’ he said. “So, I don't plan to support President Obama for reelection.’’

Puckett, who faces Republican Adam Light in November, supported Obama in 2008 when he became the first Democratic president to win Virginia, what is now considered a swing state.
