Virginia state Sen. Bryce Reeves was doubly heartbroken by George Allen's loss in the U.S. Senate race — primarily in his role as vice chairman of the GOP's Virginia Victory Campaign, but also as the source of the "lucky tie" Allen had worn on election night.

“The lucky tie ruined the streak,” Reeves said shortly after Allen conceded after losing to former governor Timothy M. Kaine (D).

Reeves said Democratic victories in the Senate and presidential races will lead to tougher times in Virginia for reasons ranging from Obamacare to looming defense cuts known as “sequestration.”

“The burden of leadership just got extremely heavy,” Reeves said.
