Gov. Bob McDonnell (R) continued putting his biggest supporters and top donors on the boards of the state's universities with four appointments Friday to Norfolk State University.

It's common for governors to use board of visitors appointments -- the most prestigious appointments they have to offer -- as a thank-you to longtime supporters and friends.

On Friday, McDonnell announced the following appointments to the Norfolk State University Board of Visitors.

· Lloyd Banks, graduate financial aid operations manager for the University of Virginia

· Thomas N. Chewning, retired executive vice president and chief financial officer of Dominion Resources

· Peter J. Kao, executive vice president of Williamsburg Pottery

· Henry D. Light, a lawyer at Crenshaw, Ware and Martin
