McDonnell recommends eliminating agencies, boards, commissions

It’s part of his ongoing effort to reshape and shrink state government — one of his signature campaign promises.

McDonnell (R) made the recommendations to the General Assembly. The Department of Planning and Budget estimates the proposals will save at least $2 million per year.

McDonnell also issued two executive directives Tuesday to implement the commission’s administrative recommendations that will allow for better cooperation among agencies, implement more streamlined purchasing of energy, water, waste and document management services, and provide for a more advanced travel and human resources management system.

“We must strive for a smaller, smarter government that spends the limited taxpayer dollars of our hardworking citizens wisely and prudently,’’ McDonnell said in a statement. “We must make government more accountable to its owners, the taxpayers.”
