As The Fix notes Monday morning, President Obama’s reelection campaign is up with a new ad in Virginia and four other states attacking former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney (R) for his record at Bain Capital.

The spot, titled “Steel,” focuses on Bain’s dealings with a Kansas City-based company called GS Technologies, which declared bankruptcy in 2001. In the spot, one former worker calls Romney a “job-destroyer.”

Romney’s campaign responded quickly, suggesting some of the claims in the ad had already been debunked by the media and pointing out that Romney gave up most of his responsibilities at Bain in 1999, two years before GS declared bankruptcy.

“We welcome the Obama campaign’s attempt to pivot back to jobs and a discussion of their failed record,” said Romney spokeswoman Amanda Henneberg. “Mitt Romney helped create more jobs in his private sector experience and more jobs as Governor of Massachusetts than President Obama has for the entire nation.”
