President Obama will return to Virginia Friday.
The president has been in the swing state several times in the last couple of months, but all have been official visits. Expect him to be back as the campaign heats up.
Obama’s campaign has five offices in Virginia and a dozen or more staffers.
No Republican presidential candidate has much of a presence in Virginia yet. Only former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney and Rep. Ron Paul (Tex.) will appear on the Virginia primary ballot Tuesday because the others could not meet the signature requirements.
In 2008, Obama became the first Democratic candidate to carry Virginia in 44 years, but since then, Democrats have lost ground.
