Sen. Jill Holtzman Vogel’s brother, Todd, expects to run for senate in a neighboring district in the Shenandoah Valley, according to the Virginia Public Access Project.
Todd Holtzman, an oil distributor, filed papers with the State Board of Elections to run for the seat being vacated by Sen. Mark Obenshain (R-Harrisonburg), who expects to run for attorney general in 2013.
The next senate election will be held in 2015, but if Obenshain were to win the attorney general race, a special election would be called.
Obenshain announced in December that he was exploring a run for attorney general when Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli said he planned to run for governor. Obenshain’s senate district includes Harrisonburg and parts or all of the counties of Page, Rappahannock, Shenandoah, Warren and Rockingham.
Del. Robert B. Bell (R-Charlottesville), a former state prosecutor, also plans to run for attorney general.
