The Senate unanimously confirmed Michael Urbanski Thursday to serve as a judge for the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia.
Urbanski, a magistrate judge for the Western District, which covers Roanoke, Danville and Lynchburg, was nominated for the bench by President Obama.
Virginia’s Sens. Mark Warner and Jim Webb, both Democrats, recommended his appointment to the White House in June 2010.
“We met with a number of well-qualified candidates for this position, but Judge Urbanski’s temperament and track record of effectively resolving cases made him the clear choice to recommend to President Obama,’’ Webb said.
Warner praised Urbanski for being an “effective, even-handed mediator.’’
“His credentials are impeccable and he has earned the highest endorsements from leading state and local bar associations,’’ he said.
