Senate Democrats stockpile cash for November

Senate Democrats raised $254,793 in the three-month period that ended June 30 and had $864,877 in the bank as they look to keep their majority this fall, according to the Virginia Public Access Project, a nonpartisan tracker of money in politics.

Senate Majority Leader Richard Saslaw (D-Fairfax) raised an additional $259,823 and had $1 million cash on hand, according to VPAP.

Senate Republicans reported earlier Friday — the campaign finance deadline — that they had raised $365,115 in the same period and had nearly $1.1 million in the bank. Their leader, Sen. Tommy Norment of James City, raised $200,871 and had $387,125 cash on hand.

In the House, Speaker William J. Howell’s Dominion Leadership Trust raised $121,838 and has nearly $1.1 million in the bank, according to VPAP. House Democrats raised $125,375 and have $222,273 cash on hand.

Howell and Minority Leader Ward Armstrong (D-Henry) have more than $200,000 in their own accounts.
