Just in case Virginia’s airwaves weren’t already saturated with political ads, key players on both sides of the aisle are upping the ante.

Democrat Timothy M. Kaine’s Senate campaign has purchased another $1 million worth of ad time for his contest against fellow former governor George Allen, the Republican candidate, bringing Kaine’s total buy to $3.5 million so far. Kaine’s campaign confirmed the purchase, which was first reported by Politico.

Allen has also reserved a significant amount of airtime, while the Republican and Democratic Senate campaign committees have booked close to $13 million worth of airtime combined in Virginia.

On top of all that comes news, as noted by The Fix, that the pro-Republican group American Crossroads has reserved $40 million worth of airtime across the country, including $6.5 million in Virginia.
