U.S. Sen. Mark R. Warner was on his way to a town hall at a Library of Congress facility in Culpeper when the earthquake struck about 30 miles away in Mineral.

The building was evacuated and Warner (D) continued the town hall outside with about 60 community leaders present.

“I am relieved to hear initial reports of limited damage and injuries from today's quake,’’ Warner said. “We are reaching out to state and local officials to see what federal resources or assistance they might need. I urge Virginians to be safe -- and certainly patient -- as we assess any damage from this remarkable and unsettling event.”

Warner is using Congress’s August recess to tour Virginia with 39 events in eight days in all regions of the state.
