No matter where you turn in this week’s featured home, the view catches your eye.

That was the intention of homeowner Mary Brooks, who designed the space with the vista in mind. During her recent extensive renovation of her three-bedroom Watergate apartment, Brooks knocked down walls that impeded sightlines to give the space a more open, contemporary feel.

“I made sure nothing obstructed the view,” she said.

Whether you are standing in the kitchen, sitting down to dinner, reading in the living room, watching TV in the library/media room or snuggling under the covers in the master bedroom, there is a spectacular panorama of the sunsets over Roosevelt Island and the Rosslyn skyline through the floor-to-ceiling windows.

And if the weather’s nice, the wraparound balcony that runs the entire perimeter of the 3,414-square-foot co-op and is accessible from every room offers plenty of unrestrained gazing.

The shape of the home — what listing broker Gigi Winston of Winston Real Estate describes as an “on-the-point” apartment where the building’s convex and concave sides come together like a bow of a ship — presented some difficulties during the renovation. But Brooks was up to the challenge.

“It was a labor of love,” Brooks said. “I had a very fun time doing this.”

Brooks modernized many of the unit’s features, installing a self-vented linear fireplace in the living room, a Wolf E-series double oven in the kitchen and an extra-large soaking tub and rain shower in the master bathroom.

Not everything was updated, however. Brooks decided to keep the original foyer and foyer bathroom as is.

“It was beautiful and it was classic,” Brooks said. “I wanted to be respectful of what strong elements there were worth keeping.”

Besides the amenities that come with all Watergate apartments such as a 24-hour desk and an outdoor pool, the unit has three underground garage spaces.

The unit is on the market for $4.25 million with a monthly co-op fee of $7,324.81.
