Cartier Martin was waived to make room for Larry Owens of the NBA Developmental League’s Tulsa 66ers, a move that had to be made with the Wizards having just nine players available against Detroit. “It’s kind of the situation we’re in,” Coach Flip Saunders said. “It doesn’t mean that Cartier is out of the mix for next year. Cartier played really hard, gave us perimeter shooting, three-point shooting, which we really needed.” Martin shot 39.4 percent from three-point range and helped the Wizards get two wins this season; hitting a buzzer-beating three-pointer to force overtime in a 116-115 win over Philadelphia and knocking down a career-high five threes in a 100-85 win over Milwaukee. He will likely have surgery to repair a fracture in his left foot. Saunders added that Martin has struggle some after having knee surgery last summer. “He’s kind of been fighting that all year long. He had the knee, ankle, it just took a toll on his body.” The Pacers can clinch a playoff berth with a victory on Wednesday.
