The Housing Choice Vouchers are limited to families earning 50 percent or less of the area median income, established at $117,200 for Fairfax County and the rest of the Washington area by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Income limits also depend on the size of the household.
You won’t need to meet income requirements to be put on the wait list. Your income eligibility will be determined if you reach the top of the wait list.
Recipients of Housing Choice Vouchers are expected to pay 30 to 33 percent of their adjusted household income to their landlord, with the Fairfax County housing authority paying the rest directly to the landlord. Application for placement on the wait list can only be made online between Tuesday at 8 a.m. EST through Feb. 4, at 11:59 p.m. EST. Approximately 2,000 households will be selected from the application pool via a computer-generated random selection for the list.
To apply, you need a valid email address and the following information for each member of your household:
- Complete name
- Relationship to the head of the household
- Date of birth
- Amount of income from all sources
