The Kalorama Heights neighborhood in Northwest Washington has always been home to wealthy and well-known Washingtonians, but in recent years the community has gained prominence as the home of former president Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, as well as President Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner.

The neighborhood, known for its elegant mansions and embassies, now includes Ora, a newly renovated luxury apartment building.

Just how luxurious is it? The “junior one-bedroom” units, which are the size of a studio apartment with 417 to 532 square feet, rent for $2,130 to $2,905 per month. The largest apartments, which have 817 square feet and include two bedrooms and two bathrooms, rent for $4,438 to $4,520 per month.

The 113-unit building at 2144 California St. NW, which has a restored exterior, was designed by Forrest Perkins, the interior architectural firm that designed the five-star Jefferson and Fairmont hotels. Building amenities include a rooftop lounge and terrace with grills and a panoramic view of Kalorama, the District’s monuments and the Arlington skyline.

In addition, there is a residents-only Ora Club, a first-floor lounge with a coffee bar and communal work areas, a fitness center with Peloton bikes, a pet spa, covered parking, bike storage, and storage lockers.

Ora is within walking distance of shops and restaurants in Dupont Circle and Adams Morgan, along with the Phillips Collection art museum and Mitchell Park.

The apartments have large windows with views of the neighborhood and city landmarks, walnut plank floors, a stacked washer-and-dryer, and open kitchens with stainless-steel appliances and quartz counters.
