Community of Hope’s executive director Kelly Sweeney (center) received the award for Excellence in Nonprofit Management as part of a ceremony hosted by the Center for Nonprofit Advancement. The Washington Post sponsored the event. The nonprofit, which serves the homeless and low-income community, won a $10,000 grant and a full scholarship to George Washington University’s Nonprofit Management Executive Certificate Program. The award honors nonprofits with high achievements in management. Community of Hope was selected for its robust employee assessment, which includes a five-part evaluation that looks at goals, feedback from clients and supervisors, general criteria and a self evaluation. During the program, the winner and award finalists spoke on a panel where representatives discussed best practices in front of a group of 200 nonprofit leaders. Finalists, who each won a $2,500 grant, included Bread for the City, Byte Back, Imagination Stage and Young Playwrights’ Theater.
