The models at the Global Down Syndrome Foundation’s recent fashion show at the Sewall-Belmont House in Northeast Washington offered more than just catwalks. Some blew kisses. Some danced. Some struck a pose as cameras flashed. And the 200 family members and supporters in the audience clapped to a Black Eyed Peas hit. It was the foundation’s second “Be Beautiful Be Yourself” event where the models, all with Down syndrome, upstaged their Congress member or Hollywood actor escort. Following the show was a performance by musical group Band from TV, made up of television actors who donate their performance proceeds to charity. Through sponsorships, ticket sales and the auction, the fashion show event raised $100,000, which nonprofit officials say will support the foundation’s advocacy and research. The who’s who in attendance included actor Scott Grimes, actress Virginia Williams and Rep. Pete Sessions (R-Tex.). Corporate sponsors included Comcast, Dish Network, NextEra Energy Resources, Aflac, Altria, AT&T and Clear Channel. Clothes were designed by Greg Gaten Taylor of Walish Gooshe.
