Monument Realty has proposed an overhaul of a stretch of properties on H Street NW between Sixth and Seventh streets. The Chinese American business community is divided over whether the proposal would help or hurt the neighborhood.
Monument Realty has amassed 14 properties on one of the last blocks in the District that is still home to multiple Chinese American businesses and restaurants, bordered by H Street to the south and I Street to the north between Seventh and Sixth streets. Developer Michael Darby has proposed a project that would contain 30,000 square feet of retail including two Chinese restaurants and a 400,000-square-foot office building.
